Blogs - Setting Up a Blog for Your Website
Blogs are self-publishing formats that do NOT require website management. Your small business website has to be updated, reviewed, updated more, and constantly watching the competition on-line and keeping up with search engine marketing or SEM. A blog does not require the management a website does, in fact it is a great tool and often necessary tool to any small business. Think of an article and it happened to be someone's blog. There are experts and people all over the world who share information, opinions, and recommendations on a blog.
Blogs are fresh, straightforward, and easy reading for a number of topics. Blogs are updated daily, several times and day or whenever the writer feels like it. It does not have to be long, short quips are common for those who update their blog several times a day. Blogging software, most of it is free, is easy to set up and again, just writing without needing to know HTML or coding. The word BLOG came into being an abbreviaton for the term Web Log. Some of the common attributes of a blog include the following:
- Personal - blogs emphasize the writer's point of view. So there are no rules when writing. The best blogs offer some humor to sometimes boring topics. Blogs should always be written in the first person.
- Chronological - blog postings or articles should be presented in a chronological sequence. Again, there are no set rules so you can update daily, weekly, twice a month, or monthly. Most blogs are updated more then monthly, though.
- Regular Updates - again, it most be emphasized the blogs must be updated regularly with fresh new content or thoughts. Twitter and Facebook do similar tasks, however, a blog does not require anyone to sign up - it is online for all to read.
- Good Marketing Piece - a blog is an easy and sometimes fun way to update clients or the public about your skills, products, opinions, or really anything. Just remember that the tone and way you present yourself reflects the way your business comes across.
